Pastor Rodel Liwanag comes to us from Los Lunas/Belen district, suburb of Albuquerque, New Mexico under the Texico Conference. He hails from the Philippines with a degree of Bachelor of Arts major in History-Philosophy of Religion and Master of Pastoral Studies from the Adventist University of the Philippines and Adventist International Institute of Advanced Studies, respectively. He came from a family of 10 siblings 5 of whom were all Seventh-day Adventist Pastors. His two older sisters who finished ministry are also married to Pastors.
Pastor Liwanag and his family migrated to the United States in 1992. He started as a volunteer pastor at San Angelo, TX which was his first attachment to the Texico Conference and progressed to become a district pastor in Dalhart, TX . In November 1998 while pastoring the Abilene/Big Spring district, he lost his first wife, son, daughter and niece to a tragic car accident, struck by a drunk driver. Two years later he moved to Los Lunas/Belen District where he served the last ten years prior to coming to El Paso Central Church.
In 2001, he decided that he could not advance fully in his ministry as a single person and married his fiancee, Prospil Calumpiano-Liwanag an Internist-Cardiologist from the Philippines after a year and a half long-distance relationship. They are blessed with a son, Jasher James and two surviving children from his first marriage, Jashen Mark an alumni of Southwestern Adventist University in Keene, TX who finished Business Marketing and Jaminelli Joyce, a senior podiatry student at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA.
Pastor Rodel, Prospil and Jasher Liwanag came to El Paso Central Church on January 2010 and since then have been touched daily by the heartwarming love and support of the church family.
